This movie warped my mind for the few hours I watched it. I guess I think he was an alien or bipolar,

human with some psycho or magic abilities, just like a magician who can move things around, he was be to make bess disappear

I think that he was a guy who couldn't handle what happened to his family. He was in such deep denial, that he made up this fantasy world to cope with it.
