I saw it a couple of years ago. It had three or four children being tested by the monks to find out which one was reincarnation of the Dali Lama. I think in the end they picked all of them, but I'm not sure...

Well "Little Buddha" was about searching which kid was the next Buddha with Keanu Reeves but I don't know about Dali Lama.
