I don't know if this is exactly what you need, but when I think of characters I think of tv. On the show Friends, Ross was always jealous whenever it came to Rachel. Especially when Mark (a coworker) came into the picture. He's the reason the whole "We were on a break thing started.

Do you mean 'jealousy' or 'envy'? To preface my suggestion, my understanding is that:

1) You're jealous of something you have and want to keep it for yourself, like when you don't want to share a possession or friend (it/she is mine, mine, mine! you can't have it/her!).

2) You're envious of something some one else has, like when you want some one else's possession or friend (I want it/her, I deserve it/her - it/she should be mine, mine, mine!). It's like covetousness (as in,'Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's goods/wife').

For an example of jealousy, try a political campaign. The incumbent party is jealous of its possession of power and tries to keep it by campaigning, and sometimes it's dirty campaigning - a 'smear campaign' - not very honorable (is that a sin? seems like politics as usual... sad). You can surely find some newspaper stories/scandals about an incumbent candidate smearing his opponent, local or national.

Funny thing is, you could also use the same example to illustrate envy. No wonder people confuse the words so often.

This is too much information. Sorry... a pet peeve.
