labor laws are really strict about hireing...especially younger people, society belives you should be spending your time on education...however times can be rough. Check with your school councelor about requirements for a work permit...sometimes there are places that will hire, but workmans comp is a big burden on this practice so they usually dont hire under 18...if all else fails, go into business for yourself doing odd jobs in the community. make flyers and pass them around, especially to senior citizens since they dont move around like they used too. doing odd jobs like yard cleaning, painting, etc. thats what my son does and he is 13. he mowes yards, pulls weeds, paints fences, and has made over a hundred dollars on some weekends. if you live in a rough neighborhood, find a comunity service to get involved with, volunteer your time at a animal hospital or something nearby, get to know your local businesses and help them and it may be rewarding, maybe not overnight, but keep the faith and things will happen for you...remember...to relate to an older business person these days...you cannot communicate like you do on the street...play the game...be professional, polite, and stay away from the street slang, you will have a better chance that way. its nice to see your trying to do it right, if you lived here i would give you a job. and above all, dont let them discourage you if they say no, they may not tell you why, but there probably is some legal issues which prevent it, or they could be having hard times too, just because they have a business doesn't mean they have money...and always return and ask again, maybe weekly, being persistent always helps...good luck... :)

Yes, try your local super market in Philly. They usually hire young people still in school, and trying to better themselves. Good luck to you my friend! Don't be afraid to let your future employer know just how interested you are in working. Don't expect $30.00 an hour though. If you start out pushing carts, don't worry about it. Many a GOOD manager started out at the bottom and worked their way up the ladder.

Try a movie theater, lunch counter, book store or a clothing store like the GAP or Old Navy (they also give discounts to employees). You may need "working papers". Check that with your guidance councilor at school.

If you're 13 or 14, you can legally work on a farm. Girl, try getting a job on a mushroom farm in West Chester.

usually cities have community services departments, that hire teens.
also try hire-a-youth.
Your local public library might have some information or job postings.
Or a local boys and girls club may help you find employment.
They may also help you get donations of clothing.

Some links and info that might help you:

SUMMER JOBS FOR YOUTH: 215-685-2730, 2731
This program provides work experience for city youth.
(they may have info about after school jobs)
