That depends on where you want to work and what kind of salary you want. If it's a school that is accredited by SEP (Secretaria de Educacion Publica) then probably you will need one. I teach in an American school in Hidalgo and have a life certificate from the state of Texas.

if you are close to mexico, why dont you go to the office of a school there and ask.

In issues like these I always find it better to go directly to the source becuase some of the information from even the best intentioned people is always flawed.

But why do you want to teach there?....If you are doing it for personal experience, cool. But if its for pay....its very low there.

However, It is something I feel could be a very rewarding experience.

Oh, by the way, even though you may be going to teach in Mexico dont take it for granted that the teachers there are of low quality. Many teachers there are well versed in many subjects and are highly trained. Some of them will test you like you dont believe. I have a freind in Mexicali who teaches and I hang out with some of them.

You may get away not needing teaching credentials if you teach say in a private school, but you will need to get permission from the government.
