I started ballet when i was very young, but quit. Last year i started again when i was 12/13 ,it hasn't even been a year and I'm on pointe, because my teacher reccomended it. I know i have natural talent in dancing and i do quite well. I only have two 1 hour classes a week(meaning i might not have enough training). But,anyways, have i started too late to go professional?

If you are going to be a ballerina, you have to put your heart and soul into it, and it will take up most of your time. You can have fat Fridays, that's when you Can snack. The rest of the week you eat healthy, lots of fruits and veggies. A good amount of time to be practicing for your age would be maybe two days a week (not counting weekends) for 2 hours and on Saturday or a day when you don't do anything 4 hours. Get a bar put into your house along with a big mirror. Sure you can, you just have to assert yourself and get yourself in the place you need to be to make it work. You need to have at least 3 years of good experience before you go on pointe, so your really shouldn't be on pointe yet, no matter how good you think you are. Wait a year or so. Good luck!

No, of course you're not too late to have a career.

You are probably thinking you're a long way behind people who started dancing when they were tiny, but actually that's not true. Good ballet schools won't give serious ballet instruction to children younger than 9 or 10, because their skeletons aren't set yet and therefore ballet exercises can cause damage. So you see, you are only a couple of years late, which is nothing to worry about.

If your teacher has recommended it, then I'm not worried about you doing pointe work from an injury point of view. However, I strongly recommend you stop doing it immediately!

Not because it's bad for you, but because you have limited time. If you only have two hours a week, then you should be spending BOTH those hours working on other skills.

Could you be making a common mistake, and thinking that the be-all and end-all of ballet is doing pointe work? It's not. For one thing, pointe work is only doing your usual technique and steps on your toes - so it makes much more sense to perfect the technique/steps first and worry about the toes later (unless, of course, you can devote more time to it). Remember too, that classical ballet is a tough career to get into, so you may end up in modern or contemporary which won't care about your ability on pointe.

By all means, dance around in your pointe shoes at home, but don't waste precious time on perfecting that skill now, when there are so many more important things you need to learn. Sounds like you will be able to make the transition to pointe easily when the time comes.

If you have determination than yes you can do it. It was my dream to be part of the NYC ballet company. I danced for 14 years and was in the Nutcracker and other performances through tout my life. Although, I broke my ankle on a trampoline while practicing one day and was on crutches for 7 months and had to go through rehab and all that jazz. I tried back up after a year and was unable to keep my balance on toe and re injured the same foot. I will say it has been a while now and I have bad leg pains and knee problems from dancing so long. Just know that being a ballerina is hard work. Good Luck!

You're not even 14 and you're asking? Yes, you can still go pro in ballet. I'm 30 years older than you, and just started in ballet, I can have fun with it, but I don't think I'll be going professional, which is probably a good thing since I'm closer to graduate from the collge of business than the college of fine arts...

giggle...

Go for your dreams..

It's never too late. My wife danced since she was 7, decided to go to college and be a dance major, injured her ankle, switched majors, graduated, started a career, and then this last summer she danced professionally again.

So it can happen even in the oddest circumstances!

It's a difficult career path and one that doesn't have the best pay perks! But she loves dance and would trade anything for it. Best of luck!

Of course not, some people start at like age 30 until they want to start doing what they're best at. Just work hard and you will acheive it :)

Listen too me:

You can do whatever you want too. Don't let fear, doubt or negativity ruin your dream. Stay focused on your goal, and don't think about obstacles...if you have natural talent, then go for it.
