everyone does use them for that, but they are for all different uses..... The reason behind not using them is the fact that use could mess with your ear drum, further impact ear wax that is already annoying, further into your ear canal and cause more and more problems that would require a doctor's care. You can clean the outside of the ear hole....like... if you have oozing wax dripping out.. or in those crevices in the ear skin.. my son gets crusties there all the time.. wow too much info, huh? heheh

So you do not have good grounds to sue them if you hurt yourself using their product. It is a just a warning label. Like the one on the mc donalds coffee that says it can be too hot for consumption.
If it was not there and you got an ear infection from scratching the inner ear with a swab that was not coated properly with cotton, had some cotton come off inside your inner ear from the swab, or jammed ear wax pushing into your ear causing you to need medical attention- they have covered their butt.

You need to be careful when using Qtips for cleaning ears. Shove them in too far and you just shove the wax further down into your ear, which will lead to you needing to flush them out with an ear-flushing kit or go to the doctor.
Use Qtips only to clean out the wax and stuff from the inside part of your ear that is OUTSIDE of the ear canal.

It's kind of like cigarettes. The Q-tip company knows very well that everyone uses them to clean out their ears, but they put a warning label on the box because they don't want to be liable for any injuries....)(

Because the cotton comes off the end and gets stuck in your ear. Also, people are stupid and try to shove them all the way in. They put it there so that people are already prewarned, and you can't sue Q-tip

My doctor told me that nothing smaller than your elbow should
go in the ear. You can hurt your ear drum with a Q-tip.

because people like my old landlord stick them in their ears, run around the house making their children think they're Shrek and then proceed to forget they are in his ears and dry their hair with a towel, shoving the q-tips deep into his brain and making it bleed!

Your not supposed to stick them inside the ear canal-you could poke it in too far and damage your eardrum.

Hi. I am one of the thousands of tragic victims of Q-tip brain damage.
Because of our careless behavior, we are not only permanently brain damaged, but hearing impaired. You can always spot us because we have a little cotton swab stuck in our ear (sometimes, both ears).
Please give generously. We can find a cure. We can help people to stop jamming Q tips into their brains.
