Well, the emotion is real in that we experience it like any other emotion (anger, jealousy, joy, etc.). But it is simply that, an emotion. It can come and go just as easily as any other emotion. In American culture, most people have a romantic view of love. American movies are filled with romantic love where all that is glorified is the "falling in love." Rarely do you see a movie about "staying in love." You see Tom Hanks get the girl (Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail) but you don't see what happens 5 years later in the relationship. Why? Because it isn't as interesting or as exciting as falling in love.

I think this is why people, such as yourself, question love. Because you (and others) expect it to be this glorious thing that once you find it, just continues to grow and stay strong all on it's own. This is a major reason why the divorce rate in America has skyrocketed to over 60% - too many unrealistic expectations about it. And people aren't willing to stay and put in the work any longer to get the long term payoff.

Why are you singling out love? Why not go all the way and ask if any emotions are real...? I don't understand why people can so readily accept all other emotions, but have such a hard time believing in love.

Not the way you see it on the romantic movies. Love is real, but it is a test of time and usually is something you have to work on to keep alive.

You love your parents, your kids, your siblings, your best friends, but when it comes to romantic love, it's a little more difficult.

If you believe in love, yes. It depends on a persons perspective, their idea of reality, like a lot of things.

yes, it is. God is love and He is real. love takes time to find and if you believe in it, you will find it (as in the right partner).

love is real, not to be confussed with obsession. if it's love, you can hurt and still love. if not love, then get a restraining order!

Love can be what you set your mind to be, it's not perfect nor horrible, if you love somebody you'll know it, but it's not like in movies
