First you have to set your price limit. Then you have to think about the kind of dress you would like. Finally check the resale shops/second hand shops. You might be surprised at what you can find there. If there's nothing there you can look at different stores for sales and bargains. Personally I love Goody's.
Just don't buy an expensive dress at a fancy store because all your friends do. You never have to tell where you got it or how much it costs, if you love it and it looks great on you who cares.

well ebay is one answer but you cant exactly try in on
so i would probably say Ross Dress for Less
which if you dont know sell name brand stuff that is slightly damaged or has been on the racks too long
for example i got my prom dress there for like $20
it had some stains but they came out at the dry cleaners
also i would try a thrift store my sister got her prom dress from a really good one and it still had the price tags on it and was only $18
so ya it really depends how musch you are willing to pay and
if you are picky about cleaning the garment after buying it

Loehmanns. I don't know if you live near one but I found by prom dress (really beautiful, trust me on that) for 40 dollars! I laugh when I think about the people who spents hundreds for dresses that barely covered their bodies.

Check Goodwill, Salvation Army, and any local consignment shops...you can find some really great things 2nd hand sometimes...also, if you have time, see what you can find on eBay...
