As I lay there under my red and green tamoshan I watched the patterns made by the falling rain drops on my bedside window. I wondered why some drops always took the same path down the glass. Why, I pondered, do some follow the leader and others stray from the well marked path? My eyes were still filled with sleep debris when the sound of the alarm clock burst into my thoughts. Reaching over to punch Harry in the ribbs I found to my sudden amazement that Harry was dead. He was stiff as a board, and cold to the touch. The mattress on his side of the bed was wet and, darn, so was part of my tee shirt. Someone in my bedroom was screaming the loudest scream I ever heard. Then I realized that it was me.
