Currently gas prices in England are about .90 pounds per liter which equates to about $6.35 per gallon in US currency...... Do you think the gas prices in Europe are GW's fault also???? The fact is that gas prices are controlled by the world commodity markets and there is almost nothing the US government can do to raise or lower gas prices. We are lucky here in the US we have lower fuel taxes, a more efficient supply network and mor modern refineries than those in other countries which gives us gas at a much lower price than almost any place on the planet. In fact the current fuel prices, when adjusted for inflation, are still lower than at most any time in our country's history. When adjusted for inflation a product that cost $1.00 in 1979 (which was the price of gasoline at the time) should be about $3.65 today. So, instead of blaming the president for the current fuel prices perhaps we should thank him for keeping the fuel prices so low!

Amen to lowrider and his answer. Gas prices are controlled by many things, and since gas prices affect everyone, everybody wants someone to blame. No one person (or industry, for that matter), has the influence to control gas prices. Do a search for questions concerning questions about fuel prices. There are about a million of them, and despite the 97-98 percent of people who scream, "Impeach Bush", or point the finger at the oil industry, there are people who know what they are talking about and post informative answers. Give 'em a read. Also, Google articles on oil prices and alternative fuels, as well as the viability of new automotive technologies, like fuel cells and such. You might be suprised at what you learn.

To answer your question, the immediate answer would be:

Reduce oil demand.

Increase oil supply.

Bear in mind, this is a stopgap measure only, eventually we will need to find an alternative to pertoleum, as there is a finite supply.

It's simple. All we need to do is offer a massive tax break to any company that makes a viable vehicle that does not need oil. BMW just announced a hydrogen car for next year. Governments need to really encourage companies to invent alternative fuel vehicles and soon we will no longer need oil. This will also help our problems with the Middle East, since without all the oil money they will have other things to worry about than attacking us.

Alternative fuels will kill gas prices, and be better for the environment.

Seeing as the price is a function of supply and demand, there are only two ways to bring the prices down. One is to reduce demand, such as we are seeing now that the summer travel season is ended. The other way is to increase supply. We need to build more refineries, and allow drilling offshore and in ANWAR! Increase the supply and the price will drop!!!

Everyone needs to use less gas. If the gas companys have more than they can sell they will drop the price.

There is a federal tax in excess of 40 cents per gallon -- dropping that would be a start.
