In the days of the caveman, they banded together to ensure survival of the whole. Today, we kill each other to ensure personal survival regardless of the survival of the whole.
You do have to include the counterarguement, of course -- That barbarism and being civilized are very subjective. What we consider to be civilized, may not have been then, and the likewise. You cannot judge a different culture on the values of your own.

Looking at the other replies so far, and your question: One of the differences between cavemen and ourselves, that cannot be disputed is this: because we have far more "advanced" weapons it is possible for a few to kill many, many people and destroy enormous areas of someone else's civilisation sometimes without those people having the opprtunity to fight back "on an even playing field".
The second point is that, whereas cavemen could see their enemy face to face and therefore were aware of who they were killing and what that death and corpse were like, these days, the more "advanced" the weaponry, the less aware is the killer of his victim. Soldiers are even trained to kill without seeing their victim's eyes and then seeing them too.
The use of robots of various kinds can render this barbarism even more barbaric, because the enemy/victims are, in many cases, no longer real people as far as the aggressor is concerned.
Propaganda and being able to kill people of distant lands about whom we know little, increase the potential for modern large and small scale barbarism.
Hope this helps. With the above, many examples of modern day barbarism shld easily spring to mind.
Economic barbarism cld also be included:- unfair trade practices and high interest loans.
Wholesale destruction of habitat wld not have been a caveman thing either.
Nor would urban barbarism, because they had no big cities.
The first point might be: How do we know that the cavemen were barbaric in the first place? How do we define "barbarism"?This should go first in yr paper.

Well, I think cavemen weren't as barbaric because of their reasons for killing, they had natural insticts to eat and protect. These days people kill because of religion and oil and things like that, its more then just the basic instinct to survive.
I think the other reason humans are more barbaric is the type of weapons they use, I mean a wooden club is nothing compared to a plane that drops bombs that will tear a hole through a 3 month old baby. I've seen this first hand being in the military and after seeing the chaos caused by current day weapons and war it's hard to imagine a caveman being more barbaric.

Like in Iowa today. This step father was being divorced by his wife. So what does this barbaric step father do? He kidnapps his eight year old stepson, and kills him in his work truck. Then he runs off , so the law is searching for this creep and poor excuse of a man. Now days, and even way back in caveman days, some men resent another mans , son. Young children are not safe around some step parents. Just like the lions, they will kill the offsprings of another lions sperm, just to bring the female back into heat. Yes, some humans are still more barbaric, then the cave man.

cavemen could not eliminate an entire population with explosives, as we do and have in the past (American Indian, the regime of Pol Pot, 6 million Jews and 13 million Russians in WW2). They killed for animals for food, not because they wanted to show how manly they are with their gun. We have the ability to elimnate hunger completely but do not, it would cost too much. Cavemen were barbaric but their barbarity was for a reason that helped the entire community, to retain control of their of the tribe. We beleive we have eliminated that type of barbarity, give me a break, kids dying in Asia, Africa starving to death, dying due to lack of medications that we have and could give them. We have the wheat to feed them, We don't. We spend fortunes to keep corrupt regimes in power throughout the world, why, to maintain the status quo. Our wealthy would rather have their jets at their disposal, servants, clothes that cost $$$$$, the displays of this society would make an Extra terrestial coming down from another planet vomit. I think God has a big problem with it also.

ever heard of "nothin' new under the sun"? ppl still do the same things i believe "cavemen" did, but just in a different surrounding. Just sucks to say, we may never change, or get rid of the "barbaric" ppl. I see ppl as barbaric, those that kill in cold blood by the hundreds, or beating some one down to steal their money for a day of crack....well, i guess, maybe they are more diff from cavemen, due to the influence of drug use and alchohol abuse...

Cavemen lacked the ability to wage massive murder campaigns as we have in our recent history of world wars, etc. They didn't have ability to get plastic surgery just too look better rather han accept themselves for what they "truly" are. They stayed busy "working to survive" while there are lines full of the impoverished and homeless due to using money as the new means of survival. The list is endless.

Cro-Magnon "cavemen" remains are representative of the earliest anatomically modern human beings to appear in western Europe. "Cromagnons" learned to be skilled weapons makers. Most of the weapons included stone axes, knives, spears, harpodid which made killing a sport against individuals or small groups, but not generally against whole countries or regions.
In terms of present day barbarism, one human species (Neocons) do slaughter great masses of people as part of their culture, i.e. currently in Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan using highly crafted weapons of mass destruction which are specifically designed for to destroy people in villages, towns and whole countries. However, modern day Neocons do avoid catastrophic events when their resources are needed to help other humans (i.e. Katrina disaster, 9/11), even when cajoled, so the aftermath of disasters lingers on and causes angst in more compassionate humans for years.
Analysis of the pathology of the the cranium of today's Neocons (brain function) indicate depressions which cause them deny humans as valuable entities. What Neocons see are not huge populations of people, but dots on a map. Hence there is no conception regarding the bullying, slaughter and maiming of large masses of people and in fact, Neocons are fascinated by the sight of blood, destroyed flesh and murder. (See: American Television and Film)
Neocon's unique cranial shape also indicates the propensity to view most humans as separate from their own familiar group as well as potential sources of wealth. They target people for subjugation and for wealth because Neocons are deeply motivated by an "acquisitor" mentality.
Be sure to make a distinction between the Neocon species that appear on Yahoo Q@A and the so-called Liberals because the Liberals have hearts that bleed for people at the drop of a hat. Liberals are greatly hated by Neocons for that.
Hope this helps! ;-)

Tell your teacher to keep his/her liveral views to their selves. You can't compare the two because of the different conditions,
We no longer have to eat our meat raw because we can create fire unlike early cavemen.
We no longer have to live in caves because we can build our own shelter.
They have no idea how barbaric life truly was back then and they are just trying to put idea's in your head. You are to be educated at school not brain washed.

You don't need to use examples to say that humankind in the present day is barbaric, evil, cruel, a blight on this world. Just use lots of quotes from wacko-libs, PETA folk, the Green crowd, etc. I'm sure you could write an encyclopedia.
