why is it that with just about every single question that is asked here, from the fundamental workings of the universe to by-laws on garbage disposal, at least one so-called christian will post a reply that will usually ignore the facts of the matter in question and impose their belief on every single other person reading the thread? jesus preached to practice religion in private, so considering these people usually quote extensively from the scriptures, how is that that obviously that particular part of his teachings doesn't apply to them? furthermore, why do they expect me, an atheist, to unquestioningly accept the balderdash they are talking whereas when i give them my worldview they'll most likely tell me that i'll either have to accept their idea of religion or will go to hell? also, why do they post questions on hard science only to choose as the best answer the reply that goes with their preconception anyway? isn't it telling that i already know what the replies to this will be?

btw, i have a fair idea why people act like that, but i still find it extremely frustrating and would like your opinions on it. and, for the so-called christians out there, i might be an atheist, but i made a long spiritual journey to get to that point and i know the bible as well as any of you, if not better. just to let you know...

a_blvr - am i imposing my belief on you? for all i can see i am merely asking a question. at no point do i make the suggestion that my worldview is superior to yours or that you should share it.

yowhatsup2day - you might have noticed that i referred to these people as so-called christians. to me they don't actually come under the general heading of "christian" because ignorant behaviour and christianity don't go together in my book. thanks for your answer, it was refreshing to get one from a less bigoted and more real christian. and, btw, i'm not angry that you believe, only puzzled. i'm angry that some people seem to feel believing automatically absolves them from having to use their brains.

luvwinz - i see it happening all the time in the science categories, to the extent that not long ago i saw some guy essentially trying to pass of the process of evolution as some sort of liberal plot.

I am an athiest. I have a very good Catholic friend and a very good Bapitist friend. They are adamant about their beilefs and we get along. My friend once sent me this poem when I asked her
"WHY did she always have to announce to everyone that she is a Christian?
I'm A Christian
>by Maya Angelou
>
>When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
>I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'.
>I'm whispering "I was lost,
>Now I'm found and forgiven."
>
>When I say. "I am a Christian,"
>I don't speak of this with pride.
>I'm confessing that I stumble,
>And need CHRIST to be my guide.
>
>When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
>I'm not trying to be strong.
>I'm professing that I'm weak,
>And need HIS strength to carry on.
>
>When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
>I'm not bragging of success.
>I'm admitting I have failed,
>And need God to clean my mess.
>
>When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
>I'm not claiming to be perfect.
>My flaws are far too visible,
>But God believes I am worth it.
>
>When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
>I still feel the sting of pain.
>I have my share of heartaches,
>So I call upon His name.
>
>When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
>I'm not holier than thou.
>I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace Somehow.

It works for my friend and I understand her need to have this in her life.

Speaking as a Christian, I have to wonder, why are you so angry of people who believe? I am not angry that you do not believe. Just ignore the people who you think give a nutty answer. There is ignorance in every walk of life and every religion. A Christian that reaches out with an answer that is infused with religion is doing what is called spreading the gospel. Or so they believe. You cannot lump all Christians as you seem to be picking on into one group or category. Just as all atheists are different. Good Luck. :)

Like the guy who answers the question and then says "If you want to know more about the Bible click this link. It has answers to many of your questions."
It could be a question about anything from gardening to lawnmower repair, and he'll do it every time.
Annoying!

Not being rude but…

Do you have actual examples of this? Did they merely answer with statements of their faith, because that's really not "imposing" in an open forum such as this.

If someone answers a question with a comment that you see as having no merit, why do you take it so seriously and speak pirate (ARGH!)?

Well, be happy in knowing that just because they wish you would go to hell, you don't have to. I know that I, for one, will not go to hell just at their bidding and pointed fingers.
