The unit km is 1000 times the size of m, therefore you will only need 1/1000 as many to have the same distance. 7200m/1000 = 7.2km

km is 'kilo-meters'
kilo always mean 1,000

So 1 kilometer will mean 1000 meters.

so 7200 meters will be 7.2 kilometers

workings:

1000m = 1km
7200m = 7200/1000 km
= 7.2 km
