There are many type of friends in the world. There are friends that really care for you deep inside. Then there are those drinking and eating buddies.. those that only wishes to be friends with you for your wealth and social status. Now which one does it seem like your boss has?

Nothing unusual. You see, my older brother is such a great guy with other people, at his church he's very active, always helping others, but at home he's such a disgrace. Someone I am not proud to call "brother".
Same thing with your boss. She is friendly with many people, but not with others. There's not much you can really do about it, because most likely she will tell you "If you don't like it, quit". Something like that. Don't let it bother you, I'm sure is a bit disturbing, but just do your job, don't wait for recognition, etc. and later on find yourself a better job with a better atmosphere. Good luck.

I'm a vice president of a sales force of about 20 people. Unfortunately, those of us in charge have to do things we may not like to do. When my sales force isn't performing up to par, or coming in too late, and taking advantage of certain privileges; I'm the bad guy for having to correct the situation. It's the employees obligation to do what's right. Also, I guarantee you that there is a lot going on that you aren't aware of that your boss has to deal with. Lots of stress to help keep things running smoothly. Work & her personal life are two different things; I can relate to your boss! She probably acts a lot different outside of work than at home.

Unfortunately, it is common practice for managers or people in charge to be taught to treat thier employees that way. My husbands boss always told him he was too easy on his employees. Thing is, you get more out of them when they are treated with respect and consideration. I dont know why common sense just disappears when get get into a position of power.

I daresay it's probably because they percieve her as powerful, are a little bit scared of her and the wrong type of people find her entertaining. They probably don't respect her though. She's not powerful, just highly insecure and trying to cover it up. People who present in this way are rarely happy and have very low self esteem.
Next time she has a go at you remember she has her own worst enemy living in her head.
