If you never smile more then likely you are up to no good. God does not like ugly. God gave you a heart to feel things, learn lessons and move on...you learn your lesson and the next time that situation presents itself you can smile with the lips God gave you because you remember when God allowed you to hurt (heart-feelings) it taught you a lesson that you took to heart, learned from it and can now smile...... ;-)

It is a Christianized statement made to try and sound like a proverb, much like the Confucism style, but failed misserably..

First of all, in the bible, it says Satan is the source of all evil and pain, hence you don't "Hurt because god gave you a heart" its "Hurt because satan torments you." more or less.

Either way, no one should take proverbs that are christian written like this, as serious. You want good Proverbs, buy a confucism book.

I see that God gave you both the ability to be happy and show it and a heart that can feel emotion and hurt, or love.

Well, I'm all for the smiling, but the hurt, I can certainly do without. Shouldn't it be a law that once you have had a certain amount of hurt, no more would be given? I think I would have reached my limit by age 16......

My thoughts are that it makes no sense. Why not frown because God gave you lips? Why not rejoice because God gave you a heart?
