Give them a soccor ball and watch them play. Three is too young to drill. Let them be a kid first before you try to turn them into Beckham!!!!

You're expecting way too much. At just 3 y/o few children have any concept of competition and most likely little understanding of team work. The best thing you could do at this age is simply take him in the yard with a cardboard box as a goal. Pass the ball back and forth a few times a score a goal and ham it up as though it was the greatest thing on earth. After that ask him if he would like to try to make a goal. If he doesn't want to at first just let it go. Putting ANY pressure on him will destroy any chance you have on getting him into soccer or any sport for that matter. He will try in time and when he succeeds ham it up. Praise is the key here. Kinda tackle him, roll around on the ground with him and maybe tickle him a little while telling him how great he is. Most kid's would love that and create a desire to do it again.

How about having your child play a REAL sport instead?

A GREAT EXERCISE FOR THREE YEAR OLDS IS MONKEY IN THE MIDDLE. HAVE YOUR MONKEYS STAND IN A CIRCLE WITH ONE IN THE MIDDLE AND TELL THEM TO KEEP THE BALL AWAY FROM THE PERSON IN THE MIDDLE. THIS ENHANCES TEAM PLAY AND ALSO A LITTLE AGGRESSIVENESS.
