A previous poster said that humans are the only living creatures aware of their destructive tendencies, and thus the only ones in a position to fix these problems. I agree. Granted, none of these problems would have existed without us. But I don't take the blame, because I never asked for the human race to be created (that's getting kind of philosophical, hah).

Depending whose view you see, other creatures are also destructive. Spiders don't really help the flies' environment, do they? That's nature's course... We were also made predators. In my area we have a real deer problem. They eat everything! Other species are actually dying out because we are so overrun with deer. When a species becomes overpopulated, it becomes a threat to others, whether it's spiders or deer. Perhaps the human population has become too great to do the environment much good (again, I don't take the blame for this one...)

But humans are the only species that voluntarily care for other species and that deliberately plant trees and other plants. Personality and individual ambition have lots to do with this.

While animal-lovers contend that other creatures have personalities (and they might, I don't really know), no lion is ever going to wake up one morning and say, "Hm, I don't think I'll hunt gazelles anymore. I think I'll devote my life to making the world a better place for gazelles."

So the best thing that the human race has done for the environment is to produce a few humans who care about the environment.

As long as humans are breathing the enviornment will not get better. All we do is take from the earth but never give back.

we haven't made it better. esp since the industrial revolution! too many people are thinking about themselves and their companies to put anything of nature into consideration these days! but i am a bit impressed though by the release of the latest BMW known as the BMW 7 series hydrogen 7 saloon; runs on hydrogen and simply produces water vapor instead of those harmful gases! a great idea but how many will actuall buy it with such a high price! still, the majority of humans actually increases the destruction threat of our environment! the fewer more good people use catalyst converters in their smoke-stacks and cars and implement laws against disposal of waste materials in our surrounding of flora and fauna! such modern technology used for good and bad!

I live in florida and our lagoon used to be clear and full of tropical fish when I was a kid. Now it's green/brown and murky and you can't even eat the clams and fish you catch from it. The cruise ships at Port Canaveral dump fuel and oil enough that you can see it and smell it in the water miles away.

yea, we are screwing up the environment.

HOWEVER we are not causing Global Warming, that does not really exist.

Hum...I know humans have done lots of damage (global warming, oil spills, etc.) but we're the only species who is cognitively AWARE of our Earth and that what we do to it makes an impact. So that's why we plant trees in urban areas to offset urban growth, we try to repopulate animals who are endangered (and sometimes humans aren't the reason animals are endangered)...help me out here!!! :)

We haven't and environmental movements that I can think of to better things are in response to problems WE created, such as protecting endangered species. They wouldn't be endangered if we didn't hunt them to extinction or destroy their habitat. We just seem to live for today, future generations be damned!

The only examples I can think of would be messes that we have made, and then cleaned up. Lake Erie would be an example.

the earth was perfect before humans came on the scene. humans have done nothing to make it better. the best humans can do is lessen the bad impact they are having on the earth.

humans charge there environment to suit their needs. unfortunately there needs are not the same as natures, so there is a conflict there.
one day, hope its not to late, people will realize that nature is a huge part of this worlds and take that into consideration when changing their environment.
