Only you can answer that question. The question of God, or a god, is up to the person asking the question. Search within yourself and see what you find.

Every religion has some form of understanding that their religion is superior. Most believe that only they are going to heaven. Since no one can be a part of every religion and believe in it we can therefore assume that everyone goes to hell. Why would billions (is billions correct?) waste their time on religion if they knew they were going to hell.

I personally don't believe in a creator. I'm a man of science and fact. Whether god exists is another question entirely.

There could possibly be a god like figure that people have a minimal understanding of. If there is a god I would think that the world would be a better place.

If you think about it if people started walking around today and said "I parted the red sea!" of "I saw god turn a stick into a snake!" they would be committed.

Many things can be interpreted as acts of god. Being missed by that speeding bus perhaps. If you believe in god you have someone to thank if you don't you can either say your lucky or your just in the right place at the right time.

I wish you the best of luck in finding your spirituality (if you're looking, and not just polling the public). I personally don't believe in god but, that's just one lonely 14 year old's view. I enjoyed this question and responding. I hope I have thoroughly explored the question.

Regards,
Wes

I think the more important question to ask might be, "If you believe that god exists, why is it that you WANT to believe that?" Personally, I find a person's reasons for wanting to believe in the existence of a god far more interesting than whether they believe at all. You can learn a lot about a person from those reasons.

But, here's my answer to your question. Other answerers here ask, "Which god?" A perfectly valid question. Because whether one believes that a god or gods exist or not, there is absolutely no evidence of such existence, nor any evidence as to which god or gods exist. (And sorry, anecdotal and heavily edited writings written by ignorant barbarians a couple millenia ago don't count.)

This is more important than most people realize. What this complete lack of evidence means is, that for whatever god one posits to exist, one could _on_equal_grounds_ posit the existence of a god of completely different--even opposite--characteristics. There are literally an infinite number of different gods that _could_ exist. But if one takes it as a given that there is only one god (or some other finite number), then by definition, the odds of that one particular god being the one that actually exists is one divided by infinity, or zero. Remember, with absolutely no supporting evidence, any god is on equal standing with any other.

So, either there are no gods, or the one you're worshipping is certainly the incorrect one. Either way, it's not good for believers. Yet another reason I'm happy to be a freethinking atheist....

To many, yes... to others, no... If there are, then there may be a lot of Gods or Godesses for many people hav thought of thousands of Gods/ Godesses by now... As for me, I'm really not sure. i haven't read any bibles but did pray once when i was terribly horrified (don't get me wrong people, I was only an 8-year-old). Ended up all was well at the end. So my point is, there is one if you believe there is. If you believe in any God, whether good or bad, they're real (hopefully, you all understand what I mean...) So if you believe in a god/godess, then they're real--well, for you at least. For anyone who doesn't believe there is one, then they aren't real...for them.

Hope that helps!

That is such an open question. What god are you talking about? There have been many of them through history.

I personally think if there is a god, it/he/she is something our tiny human brains have yet to fully explain or understand.
All we have are ancient writings, (some discarded) some translated countless times through the agendas of the people in power to try and help explain 'why are we here'.
I think if there is a god it/he/she would want nothing to do with any of the organized religions. Too many people have died in the name of some religion or another.

But to answer the question in simple terms, I don't know.

The poll of the earth is 80% who believe in a higher being, while the rest believe in objective reality. 80% have a distorted worldview. It's interesting to note that the population of the US is only beaten by Turkey in the belief of a supernatural being....

At least where it counts in the scientific world, the US does not make a fool of itselft..
