It is free but using it to download copyrighted material is HIGHLY ILLEGAL. Limewire is being sued as I write this and it's only a matter of time before the companies and the authorities start tracking down people who do that - that's how Napster got into trouble in the beginning. Go to Napster now that they're legit and pay the measly dollar for the song. Don't steal music.

Yes it is, if you download the basic. I have the basic and it works great! The "Pro" download, is a one time fee of $18.88. On the website it says the only thing Pro has is:Better search results, Turbo-charged download speeds, Connect to more sources, Special PRO only skin, Free tech support via email, Free updates for up to 6 months. But basic seems fine with me! :]]
Oh yea, it isnt considered illeagal because you are sharing your files as well. If you have Windows you might not want to get it, because people put a bunch of viruses on the files.

The basic version is free. To be honest, all type of P2P sharing softwares are considered illegal.That is why under their terms and conditions, they will not be responsible/liable for whatever legal action set upon you if it happens.
