a very very short explanation-
coal and oil refineries exude CO2 into the atmosphere...this affects the ozone layer which leads to global warming...it gets hotter...polar icecaps melt...sea levels rise...we lose our coastlines and possibly some cities along those coasts...not good. watch that movie "an inconveneient truth" or just read a biology textbook.
