There are no "good" slot machines; but, if you are going to Vegas just to have fun and socialize, then it is not a bad idea to stay within a predetermined daily budget. Don't gamble with more than you can afford to lose, because you probably will. They didn't build all those beautiful casinos by paying out jackpots to everybody. I personally like those little nickel slots, the manual ones where you actually plug in nickels and pull a handle and have a few pay-lines...if you can find them. I am kind of a wimp when it comes to gambling, so they are about my speed. You can play casually with a couple of $2 rolls of nickels, and who knows...maybe you get ahead just enough to pay for the midnight dinner special in the cafe. I actually won like $150 in nickels one time. It was great! Lights and bells and all ~ and only a $2 investment. Just remember that it is all in fun and that if hurts to walk away with nothing, then you probably shouldn't be playing at all. I usually quit playing whenever I am a few dollars ahead and can buy my next meal. That way I am never out a huge sum of money and I am never wondering how I am going to pay for my expenses while on vacation. There is nothing worse than spending all your money the first day and being stuck there for two more days with nothing. Keep your money in your pocket and go sightseeing! There is so much to see and do, by just walking around!

Dollar player.

However just before I'm ready to call it a night I take $5 in nickels and play for a while.

It's fun and I know I'm not going to get rich.

Dollar slots. They pay off better. :)

Players win more on dollar machines:

For two reasons, one the payback percentages are usually higher (97%+) on dollar machines, and the absolute amounts of the wagers being placed are also higher. Conversely, players lose more on dollar machines because the amounts bet are higher.
