If two teens, under 17 have sexual intercourse, is it still considered statutory rape?

I think that the 18 year old sex law is RIDICULOUS

#1 teens during puberty become physically (maybe not mentally) ready to have sexual relationships. I think as long as they are educated or given contraceptives to prevent STD's and pregnantcy they should be allowed to do what they want as they want it.

#2 In some countries teens MARRY around 14 -17 and have children. The 18YO age is merely a culture condition because elswhere it is not honored.

#3 If given the opportunity people will have sex regardless of age but, because of the fear of legal reprocussions afterwards - they attempt to cover up their actions - even if that means KILLING their lover.

#4 Cultural laws such as this are relative. If the government raised the age of consent to 25 - people would think sex among 20 year olds was wrong. Its merely a legal convienience.

Ok now by law if a 16 year old and a 16 year old boy and girl have sex then no it is not illegal but if someone over 18 has sex with a 16 year old then yes it is statutory rape but then it depends on your age of consent where i live it is 14 at the moment but still if two 5 year olds consent to having sex well then its not illegal

no only when an adult over 18 has sex with someone under 17 so if they are both 16 the parent cannot file charges on a 16 year old because he is a minor unless he was having sex with a child like 5 or 6

If two kids under 18 don't have sex, it's not rape.

If an 18 year old has sex with his/her 17 year old boyfriend/girlfriend, that's considered rape. At 18, you become of legal age of consent.

Now, it's possible to get consent from the 17 year old's parents. Chances are, you won't get busted on this kind of thing unless you really hose things up.

i heard of one case in which the boy was 17 and the girl was 16, but the girl's parents didn't approve of the relationship and have the guy arrested for statutory rape. actually the case was sent ot the sup. court. don't remember the case though.
the land's culture, ultimately becomes a part of the law of the land. so having sex with a minor is a cultural thing, then it's eventually incorporated into the law of the land.

Nowadays with everything in music, movies, TV & even video games children are becoming more and more aware at a younger and younger age. They may not initially understand the mechanics of the act but it is surprising what they do know and they put it together fairly quickly. Children are filled with curiosity. I used to work with children in a day care as well as in the foster care system (not to mention I have children of my own) and some kids as early as 8 yrs old were pretty knowledgable about the subject already even if they didn't quite understand what it is they knew but by 10 they seemed to be quite well informd.

OK, I don't think it's illegal, unless maybe there's a huge age difference . . .like 17 & 13 or something. But, as for repercussions, there's pregnancy & STDs. I realize that teens are gonna have sex no matter what, but please use protection and be careful.

Don't dwell so much on laws. Do what's right for you, just be safe.

Laws are different in each state! Don't take someone's advice unless you have checked out your local laws.

Btw, if you do decide to have sex while being underage remember: child support isn't cheap, and if you're underage, and cannot work, guess who has to pay.. Your parents.. Easy way to ruin your life...

okay umm.....you can still get an STD with contraceptives, why does it matter? it seems to be doing fine, and I don't think any man or woman is going to kill their 'lover' if they are really in 'love' with them.

Age of consent in my state is 16
