people get married for all the wrong reasons and are usually so young. They might not realize the struggles that marriage bonds you too. It is more than just living in the same house together, you must communicate with eachother about your wants, needs, feelings, etc. One statistic once said one of the major reasons for divorce is MONEY. If couples could just agree on the financial issues, there wouldn't be much stress in that department and they could concentrate on the things that really matter like being satisfied in your marriage and making sure your partner is satisfied too. It is all 50/50. And it is not only about being satisfied. You must be truly HAPPY in your marriage.

Because there are no clearly defined roles for men and women... These days, both parents work and the TV handles the raising of the children... There really isn't much more to the relationship (or conversation, for that matter) than a shallow, means-to-an-end of self-gratification... A type of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" seems to be the norm... Also, the sense of community is all but lost in today's American society... The idea of REAL LOVE - placing the other's needs above one's own - is seemingly foreign to the mindset of most of today's adults... Either that, or it's labeled "codependency" and becomes something to be shunned...

Personally, I think there is an increase of "I, me and mine" thinking, and decrease in morals. The result would be that people arent willing to work on a relationship and are ready to bail whenever a relationship becomes difficult, instead of staying and riding out (sometimes) minor differences. Instead of dealing with problems, the tendency is to say that the relationship is not good for "me" instead of "us". And if there's no guidelines morally to be committed to each other, there's no desire to stay physically committed. I blame several factors for the downfall of morals and marriages: prevalence of sex, foul language, and violence in the media, coupled with idea that censorship of any kind is a violation of rights, and parental expectation for schooling to provide all areas of education for their children, including morality, decency, etc.

I think people are rushing into things too fast too early in relationships. I think people are confusing Lust for Love. The feelings and emotions from being wanted by another as love, they aren't taking the time to really get to know each other, & they are deluded by all of these things, & not giving things a chance to actually experiance each other for who they are alone, and together as a couple.

Also becoming pregnant as a means to be married plays a big part in this as well. Unfortunately.

Because american's have a different way of looking at relationships... instead of sticking out the bad, they just want out. No sticking required. It's also just a common thing to not make up our minds, and to act on hasty desicions

Oh so many reasons. Lack of commitment. Country of lawyers. Everyone has a sense of entitlement. Poor communication skills. Infidelity. Two family incomes IE both people working. Lack of community, should I go on?

angel has a very strong point (before me). the only thing i can add to that would be the materialistic side of the U.S. and the citizens within. i pray you have the chance to go to these other countries to see how they live...i feel then you'll have a much better perspective on what's really going on in this world we live in. and trust me...it's as deep as you wanna go!! peace

This is a disposable society. People are used to throwing everything away. You don't try any more, you don't have to. No effort is required for anything, if you don't like washing dishes you don't have to worry about it or stress buy paper ones and throw your troubles away. I know this sounds very depressing but you get my point.

People don't like to admit they are wrong about anything which translates into refusing to compromise. Affairs. Stress from everything in their lives (work, kids, bills, etc.).
