The Great Gatsby, Grapes Of Wrath, To Kill A Mockingbird. All should be required reading for American youth, or anybody. All are fiction, but truly depict eras, the 20's, Gatsby; the Great Depression, Grapes; and the racist South, Mockingbird. Many of the books on your list are just entertainment without merit. You may include For Whom the Bells Toll and Gone With The Wind if you want. Take these five books with you on a vacation, and you will remember them all for a long time, cause each is a page turner, and brilliant lit. Also, remember Harper Lee and Margarite Mitchell only wrote one book each, which makes their novels somewhat special.. Enjoy!

For me these are some of the classics that are priceless:
Pride and Prejudice
Don Quixote
The Prince
Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn
and if you like the phenomenon of Harry Potter its not that bad

That's it!
No Diary of Anne Frank, Tom Sawyer, Moby Dick, Little Women, To kill a Mockingbird?
I'd say the Harry Potters but they really aren't "classic" yet.

I will only vote for one book. "For whom the bell tolls."
Hemingway wrote one of the most amazing and emotional war style novels in history here.
