How can she handle having a yeast infection for a year?!?!? A yeast infection can also cause reproductive problems as well as other severe health problems. Tell her to see a doctor right away. Sometimes OTC medications aren't enough to get rid of it. Also, bad personal hygine habits doesn't help with reducing the risks of getting it back.

Not really; yeast is a common organism that lives in the genital area, only causing problems if it overgrows. At worst, it causes a lot of irritation, but hardly anything more serious than that. The treatment is simple though. A single oral pill (fluconazole) can take care of it. As for BV - another antibiotic (flagyl) takes care of it; the treatment is simple enough; no need to suffer the side effects.

an untreated yeast infection could wreck the skin and over time develop into a sore and enter systemically into the whole body-beside it usually stinks to have yeast
