I have had gout for over 20 years. It comes from an excess of uric acid. My body is a over producer and also doesnt get rid of it effeiciently. I have been on all the regular treatments...allopurinol...probenecid....etc..etc..but nothing seems to work. Honestly I would'nt wish this disease on my worst enemy. So, does anyone know of other treatments that may work. I have heard that dark cherries are good to eat for gout, but is there anything else out there? There is a new medicine, FEBUXOSTAT, but the FDA hasnt approved of it yet. Any other ideas?

Here is some very helpful ideas for you.....
# The goal of diet for those with gout is to reduce the production of uric acid to normal levels. Cherries, and all rich colored berries, such as blueberries, are recommended. Consume half a pound of fresh or unsweetened frozen cherries per day for a period of three to six weeks as a healing protocol.
# Organic cherry juice is especially good for gout, as are many of the new "magic juices" such as Goji, Acai and Noni juice, puree or powder. Pomegranate fruit extracts have been shown to be effective as well.
# Eliminate alcohol consumption, which both increases uric acid production and reduces uric acid excretion in the kidneys. Gout sufferers should also maintain a low-purine diet, which completely omits organ meats, shellfish, yeast (brewer's and baker's), herring, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies.
# Intake of dried legumes, spinach, asparagus, fish, poultry, and mushrooms, should also be curtailed. Refined carbohydrates and saturated fats are best kept to a minimum.
# Drink plenty of pure water, because it keeps urine diluted and promotes the excretion of uric acid.

Of course gout is caused by crystals formed by too high of uric acid levels. It is basically a form of Arthritis. Change it diet will not always help, due to the fact some people just have high uric acid levels normally. Here are some things that can help ease the symptoms, but remember not everything works for everyone. 1. Cherry Extract - You can get this at most health food stores. 2. Celery Seed Extract - Put in warm water as a tea. 3. Ibuprofen - Anti Inflammatory will help break up the crystals, but BE CAREFUL, as NSAIDS can cause liver damage, and stomach problems if you take too much. 4. Drink plenty of water. 5. Put an ice pack on the effective area to draw out the heat. The only thing that I've found that the doctor could give me was Indocin. It is an anti-inflammatory that worked very well. I've taken Cherry Extract daily for 2 years, and I've not had an attack since. Maybe that could help you as well. Good Luck.

Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

Cut and pastes from other sites aside, the root cause of the disease are sharp uric acid crystals that block a small blood vessel (like in a toe or finger) and which need to be reduced in size before they can move out of there and stop hurting you. Some of the best things you can do are to go to a health food store and do a full week of detox. You'll flush out the crud that's been accumulating in your digestive system, as well as the crud in your bloodstream. Granted you'll spend most of the week in a stinky bathroom, but at the end of it you'll feel much better. Another thing that helps is to drink loads of water with lemon juice in it. Lemon has great properties, but especially when it comes to cleansing and breaking up impurities. If you can find a good Napropath in your area, you'll also find that there are excellent herbal remedies. I'm just not well-versed in all of them. But I do wish you luck with it.

Goji Juice!!
---------------testamonial---------------------------
I suffer from Gout and I’m a truck driver. I spend a lot of time sitting and don’t necessarily eat right while I'm on the road. About 3 or 4 times a year I end up with a gout attack. Usually the Gout attack lasts around 7 to 10 days and in the middle of it I can hardly walk and I can’t drive the truck because I have trouble pushing the clutch in. My last attack came while I was on vacation and I was out of Goji juice. I began having pain in the ball of my foot, as that is where it usually starts. Fortunately my Goji juice arrived later that day and within 2 days I didn’t have any pain and the Goji juice staved off the Gout attack.

The cause of gout is the excess uric acid due to the malfunction of your kidney to remove them from your body. What you should try to do is to fix your kidney. There is one protein drink dat contains absolutely no purine, thus safe for gout-sufferers. This works great in aiding the kidney to heal, because all cells are made of protein, and new cells cant be made unless they have a supply of protein. However normal protein is toxic to gout -sufferers as they add to the uric acid level. Try to find and consume Nutrilite protein drink with berries. It's absolutely suitable for you. Take it together with the Nutrilite Bio C which is a vitamin supplement made out of acerola cherries.
This had been tried and tested. It works.
FYI, Nutrilite supplements can only be purchase from Amway distributors.

Did you DR ever put you on corticosteroids? I know that helps the inflammation. The down side is too much prednisone can prevent healing, also stomach problems as well. I'm sure you have been told to avoid certain foods like liver, foods that naturally produce uric acid, also animal proteins, anchovies, asparagus, and mushrooms. Try to limit your alcohol intake as well. I wish I had more info for you. I know this is extremely painful. But...your pain should also be under control, or at least the out put of uric acid so if you feel that maybe your Dr isn't doing enough for you, it wouldn't hurt to try and find a new one. Lots of luck to you!
