I have been havin irregular periods for the past 3 years. When I was with my ex, we had unprotected sex for a year and never got pregnant. I do not have unprotected sex any more, but I am active. I've never used birth control. Sometimes my periods come at the beginning of the month, sometimes at the end. Sometimes I have 2 periods, sometimes they last 7 days, sometimes they last 4. And sometimes I get it every month, sometimes 3 months later. I heard that irregular periods are linked to inferitlity. Could this mean I could be infertile and not have kids in the future?

I am not sure the irregular periods are your links to infertility. irregular periods could be a sign you have cysts on your ovaries which if left untreated could force you to have a hysterectomy depending on how bad it gets the sign I would be more worried about is that you had unprotected sex for so long without getting pregnant get checked out and maybe look into some birth control to regulate your periods and ward against cysts so that when you are ready to have children you can with less complications

My wife had irregular periods all the time. The doctors didn't think much of it and put her on Birth Control to regulate the periods. Well about 2 years later when we tried to get off the birthcontrol she started having really bad PAINS. Found out the irregular periods were caused by polycystic ovarian disease, Which in turn made her inferial... However once treated you can get pregnant it just takes a lot of work.

Have you seen your doctor yet? Such irregular periods could be due to a hormonal imbalance. You should receive some treatment. And yes they can affect fertility. My periods were about every 4-6 weeks. It took me 2 1/2 years to get pregnant with the first baby, and 3 1/2 years for the second. You should keep a record of your periods and show that to your doctor. You may not be ovulating with such irregular periods and will have difficulty getting pregnant.

You know, I'm not pregnant, never have been, and still am not 100% sure if I ever want to be, but I'm really glad you brought this idead to my attention.
I've been irregular for years (one time I had it for 3 months straight! by the end, I was pale, fatigued, and more anemic than before!), but every single doc appointment I go to, "no hormone problem here." More frustrating than having a problem, is knowing you must but continually getting told you don't! Argh.
Now I wonder if I am infertile...
well, good luck to you, hun.

Irregular periods can indicate that you're not ovulating regularly or at all.
That's my problem. I tried for a year to get pregnant. Then worked for almost a year with a reproductive endocrinologist.
The only thing that worked for me was injectable medication (follistem). The process was ovulation induction. I did not get pregnant, even though I was ovulating.
Eventually, we had to resort to IVF, but it worked! I am 9 weeks pregnant.
It would be worth checking into... Good luck!

you should probably go to the doctor and get things checked out. a lot of people have irregular periods and it could be normal but its better to have the doctor tell you.

i think irregularity could only lessen your chance of getting pregnant, but not really diminish your ability to get pregnant.
your ob-gyne could recommend medication to put you on a regular menstrual cycle.
