The Ferry is 1.5 hours to travel the 24 nautical miles, but especially during the summer you have to wait in line at least that long to catch one. And add a half hour on each side to get to the Ferry, depending on where you are.

Weather is similar, but Vancouver gets a lot more rain than Victoria.

Vancouver is a lot larger than Victoria. At 2.2 Million it is 7 to 10 times larger than Victoria. So the area is a lot larger too, things are more spread out, more traffic, longer to get places. But more city conveniences like pro teams, PNE, and concerts. Vancouver is the gateway to the province, and the economic power. It is the main port and the main airport.

As Victoria is smaller it is easier to point out it's economy. It is the provincial capital so lots of government, lots of Canadians retire here, tourism is big, and the University. ALL of these things are also in Vancouver but as it is bigger you don't notice to the extent you do in Victoria.

Housing is expensive in both. Mainly from outsiders preparing to retire here. Parks are great in both, but a larger percentage and more garden like in Victoria. West coast is a slow pace, but Victoria is a slower pace. You are more likely to be stuck behind a granny doing 20km's an hour.
