Getting a higher education in most universities that are just more sophisticated degree mills ONLY gives you a job with a kind of pay that the market offers. Most believe it is the passport to personal "success"; something they measure by the size of the organization or company they get to join, and the perks that they get by getting certain positions. It is all part of a major societal illusion. Do not equate schooling to education, nor knowledge loading to character refinement or quality living. So higher education = better job position, NOT job satisfaction or quality living or personal wealth. But it's a great way to start before that illusion comes crashing in.

We get higher educations because we want to know more and also be more competitive in the job area. When it comes down to it if you are up for a promotion against someone with more education, then the one more educated ususally gets it.

Hopefully to learn more... I hope my Dr.s graduate towards the top of their class..but if you think about, someone has to be at the bottom..* scarey *
I did not go for higher ed. I worked meaningless jobs, endless hours, saving, investing and then started a business with my husband. AAhhhhh so nice to NOT have student loans that I hear so many cry about! Life is good!

My Top Four Reasons Are:
1. Personal enrichment and goals.
2. Financial propsects - usually better paying jobs/careers.
3. Social prestige
4. Family pressure.
I would sugges go for it if and only if the first two apply.

To satisfy themselves and their parents.
I have higher education, even a Master's Degree, but I sit at home with no money and absolute peace of mind. Sounds weird.

People get higher education so they can get a really good job that pays extremely well.
And then there's the select few... who actually WANT to learn, lol.

It depends on your career. For certain jobs you must have higher education and it also looks good on a transcript.
