Some friends say it should be up to 7-8 hours, but my uncle says the most is 3 hours. Should I keep one that lasts 2 hours or are there really some that stay up to 8 hours?

Factory batteries only say ONE hour on a lot of them. It would vary widely by the maker of the battery and the use of the computer: only surfing net vs watching a DVD or movie with speakers turned up.

Factory batteries won't last very long unless it was an upgrade.

I read an article on 12 hour batteries, but the tests showed that lasting from 5 to 7

It depends if the battery's damaged or not. My sister's only goes for about an hour because it's battery is damaged, but mine goes for 2-3 hours. I've never heard of a laptop staying unplugged for 7-8 hours.

depends on ALOT of things. Number of cells in the battery, size of screen, the brightness your running, the programs you run, the perifferals you hook up (printers, external mice, speakers ect) and what you do in general. It can range form 30 min to 5 hours (5 hours is doing NOTHING at all).
