Are foreigners (i.e. on a tourist visa) allowed to own or co-own residential property in Malaysia? If so, does anyone know where we can find a studio apartment for RM 100 000 or less? Preferably not a shitty area.

According to the Foreign Investment Committee (FIC), foreigners are only allowed to purchase property above RM150,000.

You may want to check out this website/blogs if you are interested to purchase property in Malaysia.

However, please check with the authorities before you pay the deposit as some states in Malaysia does not give consent to foreign buyers to own properties in that state.

On a tourist visa, it is doubtful. Contact the Malaysian Embassy and ask them how something like this would be possible.
