If memory serves, maltose is, but sucrose is a disaccaride.

No, they are both disaccharides. Maltose has 2 glucose units and sucrose has 1 glucose and 1 fructose unit.

Nope they're disaccharides; each contains two single sugars linked together. If you break one of them apart, you'll get two monosaccharides (single sugars).
