finaldx is correct in everything except how the author died. Despite rumors still going around regarding how he died, the following is actually what caused his death at age 60:
Griffin did not die of skin cancer, nor did he die from any malady related to his Black Like Me experiment. He was in poor health for much of his adult life, not only because of the head injury he suffered in World War II but also from spinal malaria (which left him paralyzed for a time), diabetes, and osteomyelitis (an acute and chronic bone infection). Griffin's health took a serious turn for the worse when he suffered a severe heart attack while on an extended lecture tour in late 1976, yet he lived for another four years, enduring several more heart attacks and surgeries before passing away at age 60 from diabetes-related complications on 9 September 1980.

Wow, too lazy even to do the Cliff notes?

It was about a white man who took a drug that turned his skin dark, then travelled around to see what society's reactions are to Black people. It was a real eye opener for him, and gave him tremendous insight into the hardships faced by these oppressed people. It also killed him, as the drug eventually took his life.

Thanks for the update/clarification Phoenix. So much for listening to public school teachers. Amazing how much propaganda we integrate and never question the source.

It was about a white man who shaved his head, and dyed his skin to look like a black man, so he could see what it would be like to be black, how he would be treated.

Dude, read the book. You will benefit from it, by the way the house boy did it.
