for my english class debate... ontario currently has a MANDATORY 40 hour voluntary service requirement in order to graduate, and i need a strong reason (or a few weak ones) as to why it should be removed. I'm somewhat thinking along the lines of 'students need the time to study and work and save up for college, not volunteer at the library and gain to valuable lesson'... tips please?

i have seen kids work at place or volunteer not co - op and employers exploit them
what good is letting someone get their 40 hr volunteer from doing sporting games in school when they would have done it for nothing
and it is not volunteering volunteering is work for no pay so you can learn the job or help someone
this is not volunteering you have to do it or you do not graduate this is work for pay

A mandatory voluntary service requirement is an oxymoron. This should be your main point. By forcing students to volunteer, you are effectively crushing the very spirit of volunteerism that you are hoping to inspire.

Hmmm....you might be considered a bit of a smarty pants, but the idea of REQUIRED volunteerism is a bit of an oxymoron....doesn't really make sense, does it? It gives people a conflicting message. One should volunteer for personal reasons, not because you HAVE to....that defeats the purpose of volunteering.....
