Functions must be 'onto.' That basically means that every x value provided must go to one and only one y value.

x y
------
3 2
3 1
2 1
1 0
0 5

This is not a function, only because x=3 gives two answers!

On a graph, there's something called the vertical line test. If you can draw a vertical line through your graph that hits two or more points, it's not a function for the same reasons as what I listed above (one x value gives 2 or more y values.) I hope this helped!

u can try the vertical line test
imagine a vertical line, move the vertical line from one end to the other of ur graph, if at any point ur vertical line crosses ur graph at two points or more at one time then ur graph is not a function.

vertical line test. If you have (x,y) and (x,-y), then this isn't a function, because you have 2 identical "x" values.
