Okay, Vancouver can be an expensive place to live, but its not as bad as all that. My husband and I rent an 850 sq ft one bedroom basement apt with a yard in a quiet neighborhood, for $500 a month. It is near the PNE, just across the bridge from North Vancouver.

A large two bedroom apartment in some of the complex's near where you will be working runs around $1,000. (Used to live in one)

If you do a bit of looking, in areas of North Vancouver, and right across the bridge in East Vancouver around the PNE area (don't go further west than Nanaimo ... then you are getting closer to the dowtown east side, which is NOT recommended), or in the western side of Burnaby, you should be able to find good, decent accomodations for $650-900, depending on what kind of place you prefer to rent. These areas are also a reasonably close commute for you, too. Obviously staying on the north side of the bridge would be helpful in this regard.

Above all, enjoy your time here! See everything you can! It's a beautiful city/area, you wont want to leave!!

Shaughnessy and Southlands tend to be the previous money, or they did till those days yet now that is greater blended, West Vancouver has a tendency to be the hot money, UBC section has some pretty wealthy human beings. I worked at a house as quickly as close to UBC that probable lined a million/4 acre, that's the homestead on my own, not the lot, and that that they had 3, particular 3 Lamborghinis interior the storage. areas of North Vancouver are rather costly. There additionally are wallet in Langley and South Surrey the place the horsey set lives, and it takes a honest volume of money to construct and panorama a huge custom new homestead on 10 acres obtainable and inventory it with 10 or so horses. The stables, I recommend, inventory the stables with horses, not the homestead.

If you are going to be working in North Van, your best option is to live there too. If you are in the city then you either have to take the sea bus (a 20 minute bus like ferry) or dirve across a horrible bridge. The commute to the North Shore can be horrible some days, so I think it's best to live on the North Shore and skip the commute. For a 1 bdrm I would expect to pay at least $650 for something decent. I suggest you look at the classified pages in the Vancouver Sun and the Province (our papers) And I think there is a local North Van paper too you should be able to find it on van.net link below. Welcome to Vancouver you'll never want to leave!

Upper Londsdale would suit you and family
shops-library-park-community centre-pool-
so focus on Lonsdale so mom and baby can keep busy while you work
You will find older 4 story walk -ups as well as newer buildings with elevators...
near the London Drugs Store should be good starting point
I had to move away from Vancouver but I still go to North Vancouver once a month
It is quiet at night..not alot of bars and party stuff happening
best to live there and stay on that side of the bridges...but I will warn you it is overcast all winter and rain......it can be raining in North Vancouver and the weather could be different across the bridge
If I move back it will be to North Van. less of the big cith rush there

Most important - you must find an apartment on the North Side of the Harbour. You do not want to commute from Vancouver - it is hopeless. You might want to try West Vancouver which has a pleasant commute to your work.

in Vancouver per se, you won't find a neighbourhood which is good and cheap at the same time. The only place you could find an affordable apartment is in Vanc. East Side but you may not like what you will see on the streets, let alone in the back alleys, although you can certainly find some nice old apartments for a fair price.
