I have an assignment that has me stranded on a deserted island and I was wondering if just drinking the ocean water would be an option or if that could be fatal in the end?

No.
The salt would dehydrate you to the point that you would waste away plus your electrolytes would get all out of wack.

If you have some means to distill/condense the the ocean water then you could generate some potable water. Let's say you find some container and some plastic sheet on the island or floating in the water and the island has a lot of sunshine. Then you use the sheet and the container to condense water. Which you can either collect or lick off from the sheet. If you have cold night you'll find condensed water on all kinds of surfaces anyways.

(Of course drinking the salty oceanwater directly will kill you in a horrible way, you can't do that, they are all correct here).

But then you need calories, water does not have any. Let's see....ocean water means there is an ocean - so - you can dig for clams, shrimp or perhaps even fish. If you can't make fire you have to eat them raw. But - it's not much different from sashimi - actually pretty healthy and tasty.

So - with an ocean, sunshine and an island with a bit trash on it I think I would know how to survive. That means you can do it to.

So the answer is.....basically yes.

Okay, not only will ocean water make you violently sick, it is definitely fatal. You will die a horrible death. You can live without food for about 3 weeks, but without (fresh) water you will die within five days. Hopefully, you landed on the island with gallons of drinking water or there is a pond of fresh water somewhere. And I am sure that the island must have some sort of fruit or bugs for you to live on. If not, you can fish. You need to watch that movie, I forget what it's called, with Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt. Where he gets stuck on that island for four years.

R u kidding!
Theres too much salt u wuld get dehydrated, and its not clean. Theres bacteria and stuff. But the salt is the main problem. You would die faster drinking ocean water than nothing at all

You wont last two days drinking salt water.
However, you can last a lot longer with out food then you can without water.

No. that question is stupid, you know that is not possible. ocean water is polluted, and also composed of too much salt, for ahuman body to survive.

i think for the first week, you could be able to survive.
