Paul was the most talented musican. He can play a number of instruments. Piano, guitar, and bass. George was a "serviceable" lead guitarist but not a great one. He was nowhere near the same level as an Eric Clapton or Jimmie Hendrix. He did however work very hard on the lead riffs for all the Beatles songs. John was average but together with Paul wrote wonderful songs. The reality of it is that Paul actually wrote most of the music. Ringo was an above average drummer. His personality is what people liked the most plus he was very easy to get along with.

I think Paul McCartney is the answer. George Harrison had a great feeling with citar, guitars even writing some good songs, but McCartney also know how to play a guitar, bass guitar, piano, keyboards and many many instruments, just take a look at the credits of the songs and you realise more than a songwriter he had better skills about instrumentation than Harrison.

Clearly, McCartney was the standout. He has demonstrated remarkable skill on the piano, lead and bass guitar, all of which he played on his debut solo album.

Beyond that, he is among the most prolific composers in history, and had a musical sense that changed the world. And a top-flight vocalist, to boot!

No slam on the other incredibly gifted Beatles, but I believe this is the most accurate answer to your question.
