Oyster's turn sand into pearls. This process is caused because the sand is an irritant. In the saying you are a pebble of sand and that the oyster is slowly turning into a pearl. There by the oyster makes the lowly sand into an expensive pearl.
You are changing from something less into something greater through the influences of others.
