WHAT? R U CRAZY!!! It absolutely would be wrong. It doesn't matter who approached whom. Dude 1st of all there is the age difference, 16 yrs. Second, it doesn't matter if she's former or current. You said it yourself STEP DAUGHTER.
Get your little head out of the fantasy world and use your brain.

Answer this question.. would you think it was okay for your daughter (if you had or have one) to date the ex husband of your exwife??
Wouldnt you think that was wrong or at least gross??
Why, besides a great body can you even see in her??
She can in no way understand what its like to be a responsible adult. If she did approach you, she's just looking for either a father figure, or a wild sex fling.. You better be careful she culd later say that you had been having sex with her BEFORE you split from her mom.

Do you both have a lot in common? Is she someone you can be best friends with, someone who you can trust? Do you genuinely admire and respect her?
If you are real about this, then go for it, but, if you're only in it for fun, then you will hurt a lot of people.
Being 34, hopefully, you're mature and will do what is right for yourself as well as everybody involved.

The mere fact that you asked that question if it is wrong, then you actually felt guilty about it yourself. When you were with her mother you have treated her as your daughter, and so it must remain that way. There are so many fish in the ocean so better get out there and fish a diferrent specie.

You want to think a long, long time before even considering this. First, the age difference is HUGE when she's 18. Second, you don't sound divorced yet. If you're not divorced, you're still the stepdad and that's sick.

I would recommend that the two of you seek psychoanalysis. Your step daughter, so that she could work through her inner conflict regarding her mother, her mother's relationship with you, the subsequent separation, etc. And you so that you learn to form healthy mature relationships above ones that are exploitative. being her parent you didn't bother to set her straight did you? it's wrong no matter who initiated it and how do you think it would make your ex wife feel?
has it occured to you that 18 is really still a child? did you know what the hell you were doing at 18? great example to set.....
