I have a Mitsubishi 2000 Mirage which I love, but it's at 65k miles and the brakes and engine are starting to make a bit of noise. I want to get a used under 60k miles Eclipse between 2000-2004. Are these reliable cars. Do they need a lot of maintenance or have major issues? I know Honda Civis are really reliable and last a good 250k, do Mitsubishi Eclipses? I like the handling and style, but I want it to last a good 75k miles until 125k.

Please advise. Thanks

Yes they are reliable. I have a 2001 eclipse at about 45k miles and it's running just like new. I have heard that they should last up to about 150k miles. The great thing about these eclipse's are that there is so many modifications you can do to them to make them compete with the bad boys like the gto mentioned before me. A good one would only cost you about 8 thousand bucks and that leaves you so much money to make it so much better than a 30 thousand dollar car. So yeah, go with it. And if your really interested in them here's a site that I am a member of... You can learn alot about the car. Hope that helps.

Just like any other car, you need to do maitnence and take care of them. most break down more often because they are beaten on and raced around all the time. I have a 2003 Eclipse GTS with a 5-speed manual. The eclipse will need a timing belt done around 100k-130k. Sooner the better, if the belt breaks the piston hits the valvles and bends them witch is very expensive fix and your car wont run at all. I end up working on mine quite a bit but I drive mine really hard. I have wore 2 sets of tires down to the wires in 8 months or so of driving. I only drive it in the summers and store it in the winters.

Aim Higher buy on time the banks really like you to finance a 34,000 dollar car like My Holden Manaro er Pontiac GTO with six speed. Besides you will really look great driving around town in a new car won't you!

I think they are on the lower end of the Japanese spectrum. Do not get a turbo model if they still make them. The interior materials are cheap too. I would recommend a Hyundai if price is a concern.
