your best bet is to go to d.m.v. they will have all the answers.
they might say it is considered paid for and give you the title.

In order to own the property (car) you must have title to it pure and simple. Your son really messed up this time and dear old dad who doesn't wreck his credit is stepping up. Right? First thing go over and repo sonny boys car and put it into the garage. Take the rims off and hide the lug nuts. on jack stands it won't wear out get wrecked cancel the full coverage and I can tell you some one who owns the cars title will call you. Banking and lending where are the checks going? Call and find out before they get a judgment and lean then garnish your wadges. Dead or not the lenders bank is going to want payment in full to release the title to put into (dad) name. And have junior mow your yard for life until the debt is paid. Only then give him lugnuts but not the cars title. Then have him go to a bank and take out his own loan. For your credit and friendly smile The lawn mowing...

If the owner is deceased, I would think someone had to buy him out. At amy rate talk to the DMV (department of motor vehicles) and they can advise you.

If your son is in arrears you dont want him driving that car in your name. Put a lock on it until you get the mess straigtened out. Your credit (not his) is at stake.
