Dolly is wrong.

You may buy a cingular pay as you go phone, and switch the SIM cards, or buy a post-paid one, and put it in pay as you go. Your phone number is on your SIM card, not your phone. All you have to do is switch the SIM card. Before you spend money go to a Cingular store, and talk to them. Watch out though, Cingular Customer Care is known to be deceitful

I use TracFone myself. Prepaid works. I think Cingular has Prepaid cell-phones you can purchase at stores like Walmart, but I don't know that you can just buy any Cingular cellphone and go prepaid as a selective choice. Maybe you should visit their website, contact them and ask them personally.

You cannot continue to use your current wireless phone with your new Cingular service, as well as any accessories you already own. To find out if you can, visit one of our Cingular retail stores and a representative will help you learn whether your current wireless phone equipment can be used on our networks with your new service.

No but there are new services now that are reasonable in price and much cheaper than a service contract. There aren't any hidden cost involed either. I have the old trac phone and it is better than my husband's service which he will stop using as soon as the contract is up. All my unused minutes roll over and my husband just brought me home a brouchure for a one year trac phone card for $99.99 plus tax. That's all you pay. We are considering getting rid of our house phone and go just with the trac phones because it will save us tons of money!

no, it is selective. Some phones you HAVE to get a plan with, and some phones you HAVE to get prepaid with. The only phones that you pay as you go with are the GO phones.

go to cingular.com, then under "shop" click "cell phones and PDAs" in the lower left side. Enter your zip code and then go from there.
