The red boned coon hound is a pure breed and a real dog. They are big, happy, hunting, fetching and strong territorial dogs. My cousin and her husband have one and he had a great attitude. He was so big and strong and he was cool. I said at that time if I was going to have a real sized dog that would be a breed I would look hard at getting. The fact is that big dog equals big dog messeswhich make me look back at Spaniels as a great breed. Pretty much any spaniel is cool though I like the larger blond english varieties a lot. They are more opf a mid size and still maintain a lot of "birding" instinct, are good swimmers and fetchers and loyal aswell as protective and smart and even tempered and are as much lap dog as stream crossing lake swimming campground backpacking dogs.

For my experience, if you want a real dog small enough to be in the house and be on the couch or chase a few cats go with a Spaniel. If you want an outside dog they can be that way too but their long hair gets tangles easily and they do require occasional clippingswhich increase the cost of having the dog. English Cocker Spaniel , the Bigger one with blond coat. They are cool and have such soft velvety furry faces that show real emotions clear as you can say "poor dog." I could tell so many stories about my dog. Tree climbing, incredible self cleaning ( dubbed so for she went from mud soaked to dry and clean looking in an hour), fetching, speaking, cat chasing, parakeet chomping (2x), sneaking (you should have seen the guilty looks), bird chasing, loyal, swimming, garbage can gut, and acting dog. If you caught her right you could say poor dog or poor Misty and she would lift up her paw and hop on 3 legs like she had a sticker for the sympathy. You had to see it!!

More than once I came into the room after being gone and the dog's expressiojn told me she had been sneaking "people food" .That Dog was the best. I hope you have 10% or more as much fun with your pup as I did with mine. Those are precious memories and Spaniels are usually pretty good beasts, beware the hyper pee though. they get excited real easy and carpets can catch the brunt in a bad way I say. Other than that,,,no worries with em.

no offense to dog lovers but in my personal opinion, dogs are gross. I wouldn't let a dog live in my home with my two small children. Which is strange because I always grew up with pets. I hate the way the smell, drool, shed, eat. But that's my opinion. I'm dreading the day my kids ask for a dog because I know I'm going to break their hearts when I say no.

i have two. one is a min pin(miniature pinscher) and the other is a mix of lab & rott. min pin is going on 5 the other going on 3. both r the best dogs ever. the mix is extremely smart. the mix is a girl the min pin a boy. both are neutered. the girl got pregnant right after i got her, but we had the puppies aborted( she was only a couple of weeks). hated to do that but it was best 'cause we couldn't afford anymore. but it's worked out for the best. she doesn't get in heat anymore and that keeps the males from swarming around when i have her in our fenced in yard.

We have a great Dane but I grew up with an English Bulldog (Buford) and English Bulldogs are the best breed ever...EVER. They are the best behaved, well mannered dogs, they just have a lower than usual lifespan (about 8-10 years)

I have 2 dogs. One is a male miniature schnauzer. This is my second one & they are fairly smart, loyal, loving, and fiercely protective. I like their "don't mess with me" attitude.

The other is an affenpinscher/ sneaky-mutt-next-door mix. She's a little troublemaker, always stealing my socks and trying to pick fights with the schnauzer.

i have a pit bull, a pit bull boxer mix and a german shepard pit bull mix

i have pit bulls because they are the most loyal protective loving dogs that i have ever seen. i have had pits for over 20 years and the only time that one of my dogs have bitten someone was when they were protecting one of my kids. and to me, thats what a dog is supposed to do.

i dont have to have a gun because i have a guard dog.

i have 2 dogs
1 is a great dane and the other one is a doberman.
no doberman's are NOT mean all the time, mine is the sweetest thing ever and she's full grown. Dane's are really sweet too.
guess it depends on how they are raised.
i would prefer an english mastiff b/c they are super sweet and they are great family dogs.
