I'm happy for your new little one and my wife said that if you breast feed to stay away from gassy foods and when bottle feeding keep the tyke in the semi upright position to minimize air ingestion, Best of luck to you and yours and God bless!

If it really is colic, I'm not sure that there is an easy solution, and I don't think it's preventable from what I have read. You will just need a lot of patience. I've heard that the sound of a vacuum will calm the baby, or car rides. When my baby was that age, she went through a few weeks of "fussiness". I think it was gassiness from her digestive system not being developed yet. She got over it by the time she was six weeks. In the meantime, simethicone (over the counter drops) helped and also positioning her in different ways (usually tummy). The book "What to Expect the First Year" has a great section on colic and it defines it quite well, so you will know if that is what you are dealing with. You can find it at most book stores.

There's no prevention. Though some studies suggest that colic is caused by gas. Try to minimize the amount of air in your baby's bottle. And try Oval, I believe it's called. Drops for infants, used to get rid of trapped gas. Try lifting your baby's knees to her chest, gently. May help her expel the gas. Other than that, you've just got to wait colic out. My daughter had it until four months, almost to the day! It wasn't easy. A whole lot of sleepless nights.... Good Luck!!
