depends on the settings of your email client. Generally, by default, most email clients will disable the html and images to reduce your chance of getting a virus, ad-ware, or mal-ware. In that case, you'll just get plain-text messages.

To change this, you'll have to go into your email options for your specific program.

If you have a red x in your received mail then the dummy who sent it did not send the actual picture file! Some people make the mistake of putting a shortcut to a picture in their mail and the picture never gets sent!
