Ok, he told the class that agrictlture was invented around 10,000 years ago. But then he told us it was 1,750 BC. If it really was 10,000 years ago, then it would have been 7,994 BC, right? I have to do this timeline and I can't find much on it. Was there a year zero? When was Christ born, and when was he Killed? When was the earliest Pyramids built? I mean in bc, not how many years ago. 10 points to fastest and most helpful answer.

His first answer was right. Agriculture began around 10,000 years ago, around 8,000 BC. It's not an exact figure. There was not a year zero, which is why all the confusion over when the millennium should be celebrated. Jesus was born in year 1 and killed 33 years later. The pyramids were being built around 700 years prior to his birth.

Bethany has given you the best answer to this point- both about Christ and as to how long "experts" believe humans have practiced agriculture; without checking and doing your homework for you, I thought the pyramids were quite a bit older than 700 BC (if that date is important, you'd better check). I'm wondering if your teacher was refering to Babylonia and its development under Hammuraibi (?) when he was citing 1750 BC, that would have been about the time large agricultural civilizations would have existed in the "Fertile Crescent" (in modern-day Iraq); Babylonia is often cited as one of the earliest (Western) agricultural societies along with Egypt. The following links should help you quite a bit on the history of agriculture and Sumeria/Babylonian societies in "the Fertile Crescent."

ps and fyi- 10,000 years ago would be @8,000BC and 1750 BC would be @ 3755 years ago
