My advice to you is -- don't. For many different reasons, some involving hospitals and air transport.

For a belt drive mower, the easist way to make it fast is to swap pulleys. Put a bigger pully on the engine's crankshaft, and a smaller pully on the transaxle. This will spin the tranny faster so you'll go faster. I helped my neighbor do this to an old Murray mower he had. Top speed was 40 MPH. Helps to have a home made foot throttle and a deathwish when doing 40 on a lawnmower.

In racing , nothing is cheap. no you cant make a 4x4 out of a 2wd lawnmower, I think they use different gearing and hopped up motors

Yes, just simply swap the pulleys.... BUT I'd lengthen the front axle.... why? for stability when steering...

I'd also keep the kill switch (for the seat) intact....., for safety of course.
