That question is both easy and hard! Do you want a front loading or top loading machine? I find that Kenmore/Whirlpool same company. Maytag, and SpeedQueen are good. L/G made a really nice washing machine that I found out that works great.
I know you just asked for only one! But, I thought you might want to know about a couple more brands too.

I have experience doing laundry for a professional sports team and the Whirlpool Duet is the best washing machine that I have ever used. I would recommend the Whirlpool Duet to anybody looking for a tremendous washing machine. It is a front loader, which conserves water as well as laundry detergent. It is a much more efficient wash than anything else on the market. It would be a very wise investment.

I own several apartment complexes. Most have washers and dryers in the unit. I have had the most reliability with General Electric and Hotpoint - same manufacturer. At my home I have an expensive Fisher Paykel and have had no problem. I always buy the cheapest GE model for rental units. I hear Maytag is reliable also.

The last maytag washer we got was so bad that the company we purchased it from (yes, we go the extended warranty, thank goodness!) replaced it. We purchased it in 2001. We will never get another maytag. We got a whirlpool for our hurricane evacutation headquarters and it is great.

I would stay away from front loading LG. Residual water sits inside the front rubber gasket and gets to smell musty.

No fix other than use rag to wipe out.
